Nepal Votes For Consitution Assembly Election

Today April 10, 2008 (Chaitra 28 2064 BS) our country Nepal had sucessful implementation of Constitution Assembly Election. This has been a new begining for the country, we country people have created and witnessed the history of the nation. We have voted to rewrite our constitution and not many people in their life time get this oppurtunity. Millions of voters in country outlooked the threats of riots and violence to cast ballots in a historic election to choose a 601-member national assembly that is to write a constitution. Even 15 prisoners in Makwanpur casted their vote in the jail. This two times delayed election was closely monitored by tens of thousands of domestic and 850 international observers, including former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

Our dream to create peaceful and prosporous Nepal has been boosted with this sucessful completion of the event. This Constituion Assembly election will help decide the future of monarchy, guarantee democratic rule of law, enable proportional representation in all the bodies of state, institutionalize the people's sovereignty, create an atmosphere for all the citizens to exercise equal rights and write a new constitution forming Republic of Nepal. Its just a first step to peaceful & prosporous Nepal and we still have a long way to go.

Once Again Congratulation to all of us Nepalese
